TRIBUTE TO HORACE SILVER
To lovers of traditional jazz, the name of the outstanding composer and pianist - and a pioneer of hard bop and funky jazz - Horace Silver is well known. We celebrate his legacy on the first Friday of September, in the creative sanctuary of the Ramses Shaffy Huis!
Friday, 5 September 2025, 20:00–21:45
ABOUT HORACE SILVER
His creative legacy is as immense as his inner universe. Yet even dedicated fans who know him through his work with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the 1950s, or his gospel-infused instrumental music of the 1960s, are often less familiar with a later chapter of his artistry.
In the 1970s, Horace Silver began writing philosophical and spiritual lyrics to accompany his melodies – inviting listeners to expand their perception of the world and feel more deeply with their souls.
This lesser-known, deeply inspiring period – along with some of his earlier gems – will be brought to life by jazz and soul vocalist Ola Rud, joined by other charismatic jazz musicians of Amsterdam!
Horace Silver was born on September 2, 1928, and completed his earthly journey in June 2014. This year, we celebrate his legacy on the first Friday of September, in the creative sanctuary of the Ramses Shaffy Huis!
